How Does Custom Yacht Bedding Work?

Custom yacht bedding is made to the exact shape of each berth aboard. MIRA Yacht Interiors measures aboard or works from your specs, then cuts and sews every piece from long-staple Aegean cotton. The process runs in three steps: measure, specify, deliver. Quotes usually arrive within 48 hours.

That is the short answer. The longer one is worth reading if you have ever fought a fitted sheet into a tapered forward cabin at six in the morning before a charter guest wakes up.

Why doesn’t standard bedding fit a yacht berth?

Berths are built around the hull, not around a mattress catalog. A V-berth narrows toward the bow. An island berth may be wide at the foot and cut back at one corner to clear a walkway. Pullmans and crew bunks sit in tight headroom and often have a lip along one edge.

Retail bedding is cut for rectangles. On a curved or tapered berth, a rectangular fitted sheet has to be folded, tucked, or stretched into place, which is why corners pop during the night and why the sheet looks wrinkled in every photo.

There is also a depth problem. Yacht mattresses vary from thin bunk pads to deep custom foam, and a pocket built for a house mattress rarely lands where it should. Made to measure solves both issues at once: the shape and the depth are cut to the berth you actually have.

What happens during a measurement aboard?

In South Florida, we come to the vessel. Measuring takes about an hour for a typical three cabin layout, and it happens while the boat sits at her slip.

We record:

  • Overall length and the widest and narrowest points of each berth
  • Corner radius and any cutouts around bulkheads or lockers
  • Mattress depth, including toppers if you keep them on
  • Access points, such as a berth that lifts for storage or one that slides out to a double
  • Existing hardware, lee cloths, and trim that the linens have to sit around

Outside our service area, crew or the yard can send measurements and photos, and we will tell you exactly what to record. Many of our clients start this way and never need a visit. Either route ends in the same place: a drawing per cabin, kept on file under the vessel’s name. You can see the full sequence on our How It Works page.

What do you specify for each cabin?

Once the shapes are fixed, the choices are about material and finish. Most owners decide these in one conversation, and crew usually have strong opinions worth listening to.

Everything is cut from long-staple Aegean cotton, sourced direct from the Turkish mills that weave it. There is no upcharge for a curved berth. Custom sizing is the standard, not an option added at the end of the quote. Our Bed Linens collection shows the sets most vessels start with.

How long does the process take?

After the measurements and specs are in, an itemized quote usually reaches you within 48 hours. Production and quality control take about 3 to 4 weeks, and we deliver worldwide.

For a refit or a handover, work backward from the date the boat has to be ready. Starting six to eight weeks out leaves room for approvals and shipping without a rush at the end. For a season change, the quiet weeks before crew returns are the easiest window.

What happens when you reorder?

Your measurements and specs stay on file under the vessel. A second set for the master, replacement towels after a heavy charter season, or a full refresh before a sale are all one email away, with no remeasuring and no guessing which weave was used last time.

This matters most for charter and fleet operations, where matching sets across cabins and across sister ships keep turnover predictable. It matters for owners too. A set that gets damaged in July does not have to be replaced by something close enough.

What can be made to measure?

Bedding is where most vessels start, but the same process covers the rest of the soft goods aboard:

Ordering them together means one measurement session, one approval round, and one delivery.

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge extra for custom sizes?

No. Every piece is cut to the vessel at standard pricing, including tapered and curved berths.

Can you work from measurements our crew takes?

Yes. MIRA Yacht Interiors sends a list of what to record for each berth and builds from those numbers and photos.

Do you deliver outside Florida?

Yes. MIRA Yacht Interiors is based in Coral Gables, Florida, and delivers worldwide.

Can the yacht’s name go on the linens?

Yes. The name or logo can be woven in or embroidered, and the placement is agreed before production.

How soon should we start before a refit or handover?

Six to eight weeks before the date the boat has to be ready is comfortable, given a 3 to 4 week production window.
